One of the best things about the ketogenic diet is the amazing food you get to eat. Keto is a high-fat diet, and fat is generally packed with flavor! However, there are times when you have to get creative if you want to recreate an ex-favorite food keto-style! One such food is KFC Kentucky Fried Chicken. When people start keto, sometimes they may go in search of a keto KFC replacement. We already have an amazing recipe for Keto Southern Fried Chicken Tenders that uses Almond Flour for the breading. It is one of our most popular recipes, but it may have been defeated by a new contender to the Keto Southern Fried Chicken throne!

This recipe was created by Redditor u/jvidican92, who has kindly allowed us to publish it here. As you can see from the photo, these keto chicken tenders look incredibly like the real thing! But the similarity doesn’t end there! They taste absolutely amazing, and have a crunch to match!

Keto Southern Fried Chicken

Our Original Almond Flour Keto Southern Fried Chicken Tenders could be a bit inconsistent with the coating. They are coated in almond flour and baked in the oven. Bake them for too short a time and they can be soggy, bake for too long and they can be burned and dried out. This made it tricky for them to become a true keto KFC replacement.  However, this isn’t an issue anymore.

Firstly, this recipe uses flavorless protein powder as a coating instead of almond flour. This allows you to fry the chicken instead of baking, as the protein powder gores crispy in the oil, where almond flour just absorbs the oil and goes soggy.

These keto tenders, however, are crispy, crunchy and full of flavor. If you are looking for a keto KFC fix, you have come to the right place!

The nutritional information is for this ENTIRE recipe. You could serve two with it, but you probably won’t want to share!

The Best Rice Free Keto Sushi Recipe

Are you joking?

I know what you’re thinking. Rice free keto sushi?!? Does that even exist? How do you make it? What ingredients do I have to buy? Well, not to fear readers! I am here to give you all the information you need! Just to clarify though, yes, it exists, it’s very similar to normal sushi preparation and the only extra ingredient is eggs! Simple!

If you’re not familiar with sushi, it’s a dish that originates from Japan and is prepared with rice and seafood. It’s very easy to get confused with sashimi, a very similar Japanese dish, but one that is made of thinly sliced raw fish or meat and is only optionally served with rice. Sushi is now one of the most popular dishes in the world, thanks to restaurants popping up all over the UK and USA.

My Sushi Story

It was in May 2016 that I began my ketogenic journey. Ketogenic, referring to a diet of limiting carbohydrates and increasing protein as much as possible. I quickly started to miss my usual favorites, including pancakes, pizza and of course, sushi, which is by far my most favorite meal. Luckily though, I found myself already armed with a little knowledge.

Late in 2015,  around August, my flatmate showed me an egg that had been wrapped in seaweed. My mind was instantly blown. Could it really be possible that keto sushi existed? Pinching myself a few times to double check it wasn’t a dream, I then rejoiced in utter happiness.

I have now made this recipe so many times, that I can confidently say I have managed to improve it. But the original credit still goes to my flatmate! Because without their knowledge, the recipe I’m sharing with you today would never exist!

Recipe Details

So, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. This recipe takes around 25 minutes and makes enough to serve two adults.  If you’ve never made sushi before, it can take a little while to get the perfect rolling technique, but otherwise, this recipe is a doddle to make. And just to point out, even if you never master how to roll the ingredients, as long as they’re on the plate, it will taste exactly the same 😉

The main food you’ll need to buy includes sushi seaweed and eggs. Regarding the other ingredients, you can essentially add anything you like, as long as you are still able to roll the ingredients together. My favorite ingredients include mixed seafood, salmon pâté, cucumber, avocado and pickled ginger. So delish!

This dish really is as easy or difficult as you want to make it. Regarding nutrition, our recipe comes in at 550 calories and 19 grams of protein, which is a good amount to keep you going throughout the day. You may have noticed that contains 58.5 grams of fat, but don’t worry! These are healthy fats, which are particularly high in the avocado and seafood.

So, join the best rice free keto sushi revolution and if you think of any amazing ingredients, remember to let us know in the comments!

The Best Bacon Wrapped Cheese Stuffed Hamburgers

Meat Lovers Rejoice!

Hamburgers have to be one of America’s greatest discoveries! And this recipe, the best bacon wrapped cheese stuffed hamburgers recipe around, takes the simple burger to the next level. Simply described, they are a mixture of ground beef, bacon and cheese, bound together in a ball of keto deliciousness! And what’s even better, is you can enjoy them whilst being on a ketogenic diet. If you like, you can wrap them up in a nice piece of lettuce, or, if you can’t wait, just tuck right in with a knife and fork!

Recipe Information

Regarding ingredients, this recipe is very simple. You only need four, which are minced beef, cheddar cheese, bacon and seasoning. We like to just use salt and pepper, but feel free to add anything you like, such as Italian herbs or cayenne pepper for a bit of spice. Also, the greatest thing about these ingredients is you’ll probably already have some to hand and if you don’t, they’re some of the easiest things to find in your local store.

These tasty patties take around 10 minutes to prepare and 25-30 mins to cook, which is great. If you like really crispy bacon, leave them in the oven until they cook to your required taste. Honestly, though, once they looked cooked, it’s hard to resist taking them out of the oven and serving them on a plate!

Nutritional Information

Ok, you’re going to have to hear me out on this one. The calories in each burger are borderline ridiculous. Because if you follow this recipe exactly, you are looking at nearly 900 calories. Not great if you’re following a calorie-controlled diet. But our website is dedicated to those following a low carbohydrate and high protein diet, specifically keto or Atkins. So, in that case, these are perfect.

You are getting are not only getting 75g of fat but a HUGE 61g of protein! I genuinely don’t think I can think of a recipe that contains that must protein. That amount of protein could keep you going for hours and hours and hours and … you get the point! And with just 2g of carbs, these really are the ultimate keto dinner.

One little thing though, do try not to eat these every day! Maybe save them as a monthly treat for when you’re almost losing yourself to cravings and are in need of ultimate junk food. Saying that though, you can easily cut down the calories by using a little less bacon, much leaner beef (such as 5% fat, we used 15% fat) and a little less cheese. Please don’t be tempted to reach for “light” cheese though. These types of cheeses have basically no nutritional value and the amount of protein you consume will go right down.
