Can you Drink Alcohol on Keto?
One of the most common questions we get asked is Can you Drink Alcohol on Keto? Well the answer is of course Yes, but there are some caveats. Firstly, and most obviously, lots of alcoholic drinks contain carbs, and lots of them! While this is going to effect your choices, there are still tons of carb-free drinks for you to choose from
The big no-no is of course beers of all types. They simply have too many carbs, and will throw you out of ketosis pretty damn quick! While there are low-carb beers, and they are fine to have one every now and then, this article is more aimed at people who are planning to have more than one drink!
Basically, hard liqors are your friend:
- Vodka
- Tequila
- Gin
- Whiskey
- Rum
- Scotch
- Brandy
- Cognac
These are all great choices, and can be paired up with diet drinks, soda water, and zero sugar energy drinks.
While drinking alcohol will stall your weight loss, it is very much possible to stay in ketosis while getting drunk! Just try and avoid McDonalds after you have had a few drinks!
Another thing to note is that drinking alcohol while in ketosis can cause you to get a lot drunker than you normally would, so care must be taken. While this video below is not strictly a keto video, you should follow these principles to make sure you don’t end up completely wasted.
Follow the holy trinity of Food, Water and Alcohol, to ensure you have a good night, but don’t end up completely sh!tfaced! I always have a huge meal before I go out for drinks. This slows down the metabolism of the alcohol, so I won’t get drunk as fast, but also after a large meal you won’t be drinking as fast either! Win win!
Water is also essential. You should aim to have a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you consume. This will keep you a little more sober, and keep the hangover at bay the next day! So in answer to your question: Can I drink Alcohol on Keto? Hell Yeah you can!!!
